Say hello to Jake Rankin, our Senior Network Engineer at ITWORX UK. Jake joined the business in June 2019 and is approaching seven years with the company.

Starting a Career in IT

Like his brother Callum, who also works at ITWORX UK, Jake was introduced to IT at a young age. Growing up with a father who worked in the industry gave him early exposure to technology and sparked a natural familiarity with IT.

After leaving school, Jake chose to study IT at both college and university. While he admits he wasn’t entirely sure what career path he wanted to follow, he enjoyed learning new things and found IT to be a logical and engaging direction. After six years of study, stepping into the IT industry felt like the right move — and that journey began at ITWORX UK, where he has continued to develop his career ever since.

A Day in the Life of a Senior Network Engineer

Jake’s day typically starts by checking ITWORX UK’s monitoring systems to identify any customer outages or issues that need immediate attention. From there, he works through support tickets, responds to customer emails, and keeps clients updated on the progress of their requests.

When there are no urgent support issues, Jake focuses on project work, delivering network solutions tailored to customer needs. His afternoons usually mirror the morning — balancing proactive monitoring, customer communication, and hands-on technical work to keep systems running smoothly.

What Jake Enjoys Most About ITWORX UK

Jake enjoys the variety that comes with working at ITWORX UK. With customers ranging from small offices to large businesses, no two environments are the same. This brings a wide range of technologies and challenges to solve, which he says keeps the role interesting and rewarding.

Outside of Work

Outside of work, Jake enjoys spending time at home with his family and two dogs. He likes cooking, reading, learning new things, and getting out for walks — a chance to unwind and reset away from the screen.
