Meet Niall Simpson, Network Engineer at ITWORX UK

Say hello to Niall Simpson, our Network Engineer at ITWORX UK. Niall joined the business in August 2020 after starting his IT career as an apprentice the year before, and has since developed his skills across both remote support and hands-on network engineering.

Starting a Career in IT

Niall began his journey in IT in 2019 as an apprentice with a previous employer. After discovering ITWORX UK online, he applied for an IT Technician role and joined the team in 2020 as a remote worker during COVID, where he was able to continue and complete his apprenticeship.

A few years into his role, an opportunity arose to join the network team, a step Niall took, and has been enjoying ever since, continuing to build his expertise in networking technologies.

A Day in the Life of a Network Engineer

A typical day for Niall can range from travelling to client sites to install or upgrade equipment as part of project work, to managing internet line installations and deploying telephony systems.

When he’s not onsite, Niall supports customers remotely, assisting with networking issues and maintaining systems to ensure everything runs smoothly.

For Niall, one of the most rewarding aspects of working at ITWORX UK is the variety of technologies he gets to work with. Rather than being limited to a single vendor, he regularly works across platforms including Cisco, Netgear, Draytek, Fortinet, Unifi, and Meraki.

Niall believes this exposure allows him to continuously expand his knowledge and better understand how different solutions can meet a wide range of customer requirements.
