  • What IT challenges were Pipeline Technique facing?

    Pipeline Technique needed a reliable connection to their HQ systems since PTL employees, operating offshore at times, were supporting the deployment of their automated pipe and welding systems globally. They needed to upload real-time pipe data, metrics and catalogue project milestones. Also, system managers at the HQ and branch offices needed access to the welding systems for analysis and diagnostic purposes. All in all, their current infrastructure needed to become both more flexible and more secure.

    It was clear to IT WORX UK that connectivity resilience would be the major priority here. So they started by deploying Cisco Meraki MX to Pipeline Technique's HQ site with dual internet capabilities. This was aided by ensuring that each PTL operating location had Cisco Meraki MX deployed to it and configured for AutoVPN.

    The next challenge was on the cyber security front. ITWORX UK deployed organisation-wide policies to ensure edge intrusion prevention, anti-malware and content filtering. These polices were based on Pipeline Technique’s corporate policy covering the HQ, branch offices and operating site.

    Finally, ITWORX UK wirelessly deployed Cisco Meraki MX and MR wireless integration with corporate Cisco Umbrella policies for encrypted DNS security across all sites and all devices.

  • What results were achieved?

    • There was improved productivity for data input thanks to the immediate site to HQ VPN connectivity.
    • The above then resulted in enhanced real-time capabilities for welding job progress.
    • The integrity of all the company data across all geographical locations was maintained, with Cisco Meraki and Umbrella systems working together.
    • Additional site access was securely extended to home-workers during the COVID-19 pandemic via Cisco Meraki Client VPN functionality.
