What IT challenges were NorDan UK facing?
As NorDan UK started increasing their showroom locations and started moving to cloud-based services, the requirement to enhance their internet access capabilities was more important than ever. NorDan UK’s requirement for reliable and secure internet that could ensure high throughput was particularly important as the two main offices needed to be connected at all times. This is because both main offices serve the showrooms with key corporate resources including a Cisco UCM cluster for telephony. These resources were split across the two NorDan UK sites to boost resiliency.
How did ITWORX UK resolve these challenges?
To ensure high-throughput, high-availability connectivity, ITWORX UK deployed a Cisco Meraki MX HA-pair to both main offices. Both sites were also connected with dual-1Gb resilient internet capabilities.
Every branch showroom then had Cisco Meraki MX deployed and was configured for AutoVPN. To create full visibility of wired and wireless connections, and to reduce diagnostic and troubleshooting time for the IT administrators, Cisco Meraki MS switches and MR access points were then installed across all locations.
To address any security issues ITWORX UK implemented organisation-wide policies. These ensured edge intrusion prevention and anti-malware and content filtering - based on corporate policy at the main offices and branch showrooms. Application firewall rules were also implemented permitting cloud business systems and preventing access to unwanted “Shadow IT” applications.
Finally, ITWORX UK integrated Cisco Meraki MX and MR wirelessly with corporate Cisco Umbrella policies for encrypted DNS security across all sites and all devices.
What results were achieved?
- There was a significant uplift to cloud systems with a noticeable boost to the NorDan UK team’s productivity.
- They achieved robust and reliable access to both the main offices over AutoVPN, this included phone system servers and services.
- These new measures greatly reduced the time required to onboard a new showroom or office too.
- Main offices access was securely extended to home-workers during the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to the Cisco Meraki Z3 teleworker devices.
