Working from home has become the new norm for most since the outbreak of Covid-19, however, subsequently a new line of security threats has emerged.
Here are our Top 5 ways to stay secure whilst working remotely…
1. Multifactor Authentication
Sometimes, having a strong password just isn’t enough. If your credentials are leaked in a data breach, multifactor authentication provides an additional layer of protection to your accounts.
This extra step could be through possession factors such as an email or text message confirmation, or even a biometric method such as facial recognition or a fingerprint scan.
2. VPN Encryption
Virtual Private Network (VPN) encryption is the process of securing the data within the VPN client-VPN sever tunnel to make sure it can’t be exploited by anyone.
Basically, when you run a VPN client and connect to a VPN server, your connection requests are encrypted before they are even sent to the server.
3. Mobile Device Management (MDM)
Do you have more than one work device? Devices such as laptops and smartphones are deployed across multiple mobile service providers and across multiple mobile operating systems which can be hard to manage, especially during lockdown.
Using an MDM solution gives you the ability to monitor, manage and secure employees’ mobile devices.
4. Anti-Virus Software
Online threats advance daily and it is inevitable that online threats will get through eventually, even with a firewall set up.
A good Anti-Virus software can act as the next line of defence by detecting and blocking known malware. Even if malware does manage to find its way onto your device, an Anti-Virus may be able to detect and, in some cases, remove it for you.
5. Backup your data
Human error, physical damage to hardware and cyber attacks are just some of the ways that your data can be lost. Hardware backups are still an option however we would recommend for the most convenient and cost-effective way to store your data is in the cloud.
Cloud backup services come with a wealth of options enabling you to customise your backup schedule and storage options.
