25th September, 2024

  • Our Team

Say hello to Ian Smith, our Solutions Analyst who joined ITWORX UK in November 2023. Born and raised in Aberdeen, Ian’s love for technology started early, which led him to study Software Development at Robert Gordon University (RGU) and North East Scotland College (NESCol). Although this is his first IT role, Ian’s passion for the industry and eagerness to learn make him a great addition to the team.

Starting a Career in IT

Ian originally saw himself becoming a software developer, but his job search took him in a new direction. He realised that a consultancy role would let him combine problem-solving with meeting new people—an exciting mix that really appealed to him. When the Solutions Analyst position at ITWORX UK came up, Ian knew it was a perfect fit and his IT journey began!

A Day in the Life of a Solutions Analyst

For Ian, no two days at ITWORX UK are the same, which is something he really enjoys. His role covers everything from hardware and software solutions to cybersecurity, all with the goal of helping clients find the right tech for their business. A big part of his day involves handling presales requests—working out exactly what a client needs and then recommending the best solutions.

Ian also likes getting out to visit clients in person, which gives him a better feel for their challenges and how ITWORX UK can help. His job also involves some research and development (R&D), where he looks into new products and services to improve client performance.

He’s big on learning too. Right now, Ian is studying for an HND in Cyber Security, with plans to gain Microsoft and Cisco certifications soon. With lots of training from ITWORX UK’s partners, he’s staying on top of all the latest tech trends.

What Ian Loves About ITWORX UK

One of the things Ian enjoys most about working at ITWORX UK is the collaborative and supportive environment. He’s found his colleagues not only skilled but also great to work with. Ian’s even joined the company’s social committee, where he helps organise team events to bring people together outside of work.

When talking about his role, Ian says: “I love the challenges that come with my job. Every day brings a new problem to solve and new solutions to explore for our clients. I also really appreciate the focus on training and development—it’s been key to my growth, and I’m looking forward to continuing with more courses and certifications.”

Outside of Work

Away from work, Ian is a big retro gaming fan. He’s got a collection of 11 consoles and even built his own custom PC! He’s also passionate about cars—especially his 1991 Lotus Elan—and enjoys staying active by hitting the gym. On top of that, Ian dabbles in game development and has a few exciting projects in the works.
